Example
of some of our filming: concentrating on angles and shots.
I filmed these scenes using a panning shot that performed a full 360 degree circle, this was successful as it started on the bottle and followed the model round his whole body to then land on the vodka bottle again. This technique highlights that his drinking is becoming repetitive as it is a viscous circle. The angle of the camera includes the moving cars under the bridge which highlights life passing him by while he constantly gets drunk. This shot looks very professional as the camera shot follows him closely without losing the angle or shaking the camera.
In the second video instead of creating a full 360 degree shot I followed him by his side while still including the cars and the bridge. By following him by his side it becomes quite intimate as we feel closer to him and his drinking problem. I then changed the camera angle and followed his feet to highlight the distance he feels from the world as he appears to be alone with a bottle of vodka despite the people in the cars below him.
The street is empty to illustrate his loneliness and seclusion from the world as he is in deep depression relying on alcohol rather than people. This is visually successful as the only things that pass him is cars and the houses in the background highlight how people are all around him yet he still feels alone.
Some audiences may disagree with the success of this shot as they might not understand how the setting represents how alone he is. They may feel the setting is out of place however, once the shot of the cars over the bridge is shown I feel they would understand it is to highlight life passing him by.
This shot corresponds with the mise-en-scene as the lighting ensures the crisp white shirt and dark jeans stand out while the bottle of vodka is prominent throughout as this is the main focus. The lighting allows for the cars to be clear below him which is a form of our mise-en-scene as it represents a lot in our video. This particular shot corresponds with the mise-en-scene as the shot focuses on the bottle of vodka while the angle incorporates the cars bellow at the same time. The panning shot then creates a circle which highlights the viscous circle he is in within his life.
Rather than claim the shot is professional, analysis the shot in terms of its intended purpose and how well it fits into the whole body of work. Consider how ell this shot corresponds to the mise-en-scene demands you make elsewhere.
