What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Ancillary Tasks:
Opinion of our Digipak
The viewer likes the front cover as Lilly’s face isn’t in it which makes her mysterious. This viewer said that because Lilly is the one holding the bottle it shows she is possibly the reason for his drinking. I’m glad she made this connection as that was the exact reason for this shot. This viewers interpretation of why Connor is looking up at Lilly varies as she thinks it could be somebody he knows or has known this viewer questions whether Lilly is a real person or a figment of his imagination as the audience don’t really see her. This is exactly what we wanted the audience to feel about Lilly as she is an enigma therefore you are never meant to really know her meaning fully.
This viewer likes the colour scheme as she compliments the videos darkness which is mysterious and links that to the Digipak images. She claims the smoke and gold features knit together nicely with the rest of the Digipak. This is successful as our colour scheme is an important aspect of the music video therefore it is good that this viewer can appreciate the colours used.
This viewer feels the images produce a romantic and sinister message as it could symbolise love lost and death as it could be a memorial to her which is evident in the camera focusing on the flame and smoke. Or it could be romantic this viewer feels this allows you to interpret it in many different ways depending on mood you are in. This is successful analysis as this viewer managed to capture the meaning of our Digipak images superbly. I am very happy with this as I was the one that photographed the images and made some of them therefore it was clearly successful production.
colour scheme and colour connotations
This viewer states she likes the darkness of the black tones as it is mysterious and sinister. She claims the white is spiritual and shows Lilly’s innocent side. The red is for danger yet also romance which allows you to think of it as something dark or uplifting and spiritual this is portrayed in the video so it all links in nicely. This is a perfect analysis of our colour scheme as these connotations are the exact reason we used those colours.
Criticisms
This viewer likes the fact you can’t see her face in the image used on the Digipak as it becomes a clear figment of his imagination. After looking at the Digipak she thinks removing Lilly’s face should have been used in the video as it would be better if you didn’t see her face clearly to show that she isn’t really there. This is a good criticism as it would work well as it is very successful on the Digipak, however, we wanted to create an image of Lilly so that it was clear when Connor burned a photo that it was of Lilly. Therefore it shows that she is the reason for his depression and alcoholism.
This viewer also feels it would be nice to have the candles and the rose in the video as that would tie it all together nicely. I agree with this criticism as the roses and candles worked really well therefore they should have been used as they would fit due to the fire scenes already in the video.

The
Success of the Digipak based on the genre
The viewer recognised the Digipak to be the R&B genre immediately which is highly successful as we have clearly used conventions that are clear to be from the R&B genre.
This viewer recognises the fact we use the same font which is successful as this is present on most of the R&B Digipaks we researched. This is successful as this viewer says the text doesn't ruin the visual image of the Digipak which is useful as the images are the main feature which is common in R&B genre. The Digipak portrays the lyrics and the song in the Digipak which this viewer has noticed, this is good to notice as many artists link their Digipak to one of their main songs.

Comparing our media product with real media products of same genre
This viewer immediately links the colour scheme as all of the real media products incorporate gold, black, white and red. This is good to analyse as it shows that the colour scheme fits with the genre successfully which makes it look like a realistic product.
The viewer also notices the use of images as she notices that the images focus on the face of the artist to show an in depth meaning. This is exactly why we used this image on the front cover as it created an in depth meaning. This is a convention of real media products of this genre as present in this video.
This viewer notices that smoke is used on another one of the album which shows how it is a feature of the R&B genre. This ensures it will attract our target audience.
The main relation is the text as this viewer identifies that our product and the real media products all use clear, defined text that doesn’t fill too much of the space. This viewer claims the reason for this is so that the attention doesn’t come off the pictures. This is exactly why we refined our text as we wanted the images to be the most important aspect.

Question 3: Part 3.
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Our music video feedback:
What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Our music video feedback:
message of video
Our message was clearly successful as it is clear there is a romance going on that has been ruined in some way as this viewer understands he is trying to forget her by drinking but this is actually causing him to remember her. This shows how footage was successful as this was the message we were trying to convey. The drinking was also captured and portrayed well as she noticed the dark and sinister tone and mood. This indicates that our footage and message was captured well and linked to the music correctly.
The transitions between shots
Our viewer appreciates the relation between the beat and the transitions as they were clearly noticeable as she was able to name the ones where it changes from drinking, to sitting down, then to the clock therefore the footage and lyrics must have stuck with her after one watch. This is highly successful as it shows that people relate the footage to the lyrics and can therefore identify it which makes the video appear popular.
This particular viewer likes the quick transitions as they incorporate the beat of the music, she feels is needs to be quick and cut into different clips quickly in order to fit with the beat and also the lyrics. This is exactly why we created it this way and I’m glad someone can appreciate the attention to detail we have included in our music video.
This success links to Andrew Goodwin as his theory claims that one of the five keys is to incorporate the lyrics and beat into a music video for example he uses the word ‘jump’ in the lyrics to show the footage jumping. We do something similar with the words ‘sit down’ ‘drink’ ‘pass out.’ Therefore our product incorporates a theory fully and has been praised for it which proves Andrew’s five keys to success can be applied.
Lighting of video
The contrast of light and dark footage is successful as this viewer appreciated the lighting as it was very atmospheric. This viewer also commented on the running scene as she liked the slow motion and the lighting only being generated from the street lamps, this is a relief as this footage was believed to be too dark yet the audience clearly like it this way as it creates the same dark, eerie tone which is present in the other shots. The favourite shot was the one with Connor against the wall with the shadow. This shows how successful our lighting was as it produced the shadow she is complimenting.
A criticism of the lighting was when the chorus shot comes of Lilly in a very bright room. I see the point given that her scenes are made to look eerie and dangerous yet this shot is quite bright which makes her less mysterious. This viewer claimed she looked too perfect and could of used more shade to improve the lighting. This is a very useful critique as I see her point clearly as our other shots do create a tone and this one doesn’t fit it very well.
This viewer did like the bridge and the cars and the daylight lighting as it represents that our model is in turmoil night and day. This is successful as this was our reason behind these shots, we wanted to show how his drinking was all day everyday so that it shows how physically and mentally affected he is by Lilly.
This feedback is useful as I was in charge of lighting for most of the scenes therefore I am proud that I conveyed the correct tone and message for the music video and that the audience could understand why I used that particular lighting for each shot.
How we interpreted the lyrics
This viewer understood the poignant message incorporated into the footage. She likes how we used the alcohol and clock when the songs mention liquor and time and how each of these shots change as the beat changes in the song. This is successful as we wanted the audience to pick up on the transitions link to the lyrics. This viewer says the footage makes you wonder what he was thinking and feeling which is successful in creating the right emotion. This is a successful compliment as it is hard to convey emotion through footage yet when you do it is very professional as it is hard to make someone feel a certain emotion.
This is successful as it proves Andrew Goodwin’s theory is correct as our interpretation of lyrics to transitions and footage did make the video more successful and appear more professional as evident in this viewers comments.
The costumes we used
The costumes were clearly successful as this viewer related the dark clothing to our models subdued and depressed state. She recognises that Lilly is wearing lighter, more innocent, almost spiritual coloured clothes. This leads on to the fact that she is wearing school uniform in the first scene which introduces her as young and innocent straight away. This viewer likes the light and dark shades of the clothes which shows the contrast is successful as it separates these two models and makes it clear which model should create which tone and mood.
This comment is successful as costumes were a large aspect of our message and tone therefore this proves they successfully conveyed these desired aspects.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
Our music video feedback:
In this audience feedback we learn that her favourite shot is
the running scene, this shows that despite the dark lighting this doesn’t ruin
it, instead it improves it as my mum understood that it reflects her being in
danger or running away from something which was our reason for this scene
therefore that clearly produced the correct message.
This viewer noticed the bottle was feature a lot as this goes straight to the main problem. It is good she could notice this as it was important to create the right footage to reflect alcohol abuse therefore we were clearly successful when filming.
Each time Lilly came up in the chorus I noticed she kept statin the change from dark to light, this makes me think she doesn’t like this as it is so noticeable she kept commenting without meaning to, therefore reflecting back on the footage I feel it doesn’t fit with the surrounding shots or with our reason for featuring Lilly in the video.
It was complimented for using the lyrics to create the footage as it said ‘dark place’ and the viewer quickly saw we put our model in a dark room in dark clothes to correspond with the lyrics. She was also aware that the model wore dark clothes as he was in a dark place: this indicates successful use of colour connotations.
This viewer linked our models movements to the message as she picked up on him holding his head a lot as he is thinking or trying to forget as he is in visible turmoil. This is a success as this turmoil is a vital part of our music videos message therefore it was clearly evident in the footage and the camera angles.
She compliments the lyrics transitions with our own as she noticed the liquor bottle rolling once the words ‘liquour’ feature in the chorus. She complimented our timing on these transitions which is useful as this is an important feature of music videos and ours clearly worked which improves the professional aspect of the music video.
She also comments on the use of water as this links to the song lyrics this shows how we interpreted the lyrics successfully and created footage which corresponded well.
The dark room scene created the exact reaction and interpretation we were aiming for as the shadowing effect was praised for being atmospheric and the clips were successful in representing him remembering her. I’m glad this was portrayed well enough for the audience to gather the correct message.
This viewer said she ‘loved the hand shot and the use of water’ this is the bath scene with Lilly, she also claims she likes the bath scene featuring Lilly as it shows she has problems similar to Connor’s as they replicate the same actions.
This audience feedback is successful as it shows even people outside of our target audience can understand our music video and even end up liking it as this viewer stated she loved certain scenes which is highly successful.

Creating our poster:
Creating our poster:
We created the poster on Photoshop.
We chose to use the same image on our album as on our poster to ensure people recognized the album when they saw it as they would have been made to buy it after seeing this poster, therefore, this helps people know what to look for.
First
Draft:
For our first draft we tried to create the gradient from our research on the Drake and Michael Jackson posters. We didn't like it after we done it as it clashed with the colours of our models clothes and made the image blend with the background which is unsuccessful as it should stand out.
Making
Changes:
We made the background white to make the black and white image stand out as it is the main image therefore it needs to be striking. The posters from our research have very simple designs which makes every feature stand out as it isn't overcrowded yet the gradient background would overpower everything and make it look untidy and too cramped.
We started adding the text in a similar way to our research, the text box relates to Drakes album poster from our research. We chose this one as it would create a clear area for our text.
We had our artists name as the first piece of text, as most posters only featured the artists name rather than the album title also. We featured the title because the title relates to our tone and message of our music video and ancillary task therefore it is an important feature to include.
The information was influenced by Michael jackson's poster as we list the awards our artist has had, which we made up as it makes the poster look professional and our artist look realistic.
The other piece of text is from Drakes other poster which describes the album as 'highly anticipated' this is to promote the album and make it appear a success in order to look professional.

At first we thought we would used our gold colour scheme for the whole text but from our research we decided white worked really well with the text.
The writing doesn't look good all gold as it doesn't allow for some of the text to stand out and despite the short sentences it looks like a lot to read which isn't a common convention on posters as proved by my research.
The writing doesn't look good all gold as it doesn't allow for some of the text to stand out and despite the short sentences it looks like a lot to read which isn't a common convention on posters as proved by my research.
This shows the text has changed from gold to white.
We featured the artists name in white so that it will stand out, the album title is gold as it separates the white text from the gold so that it doesn't clash or look like too much writing.
This shows how the bottom of the poster was designed, we featured the parental advisory logo as this was featured on our pamphlet, we used this as it is common in the R&B genre and shows that the content isn't suitable for some ages as it is a very strong message.
We featured the twitter and facebook signs to relate to our young target audience as these sites are very popular with young artists like our own.
We featured the names of the user on the bottom in white which was featured on some of our research, we also wrote a website as this was something that was on Ed Sheeran's poster.
We featured an image of our album cover to show the audience that the image used on the poster is the same as the image on the front cover so that they can relate it to each one so they know what to look for in the shops.
We featured the iTunes logo as this is common in our target audience as most people buy albums from their iTunes accounts rather than shops. This highlights how we refined our design for our target audience and genre of music.
This was our finished product, the red banner with the date in using a white font was due to our Drake poster research. This ensures we followed the same colour scheme as our research: black, white, red and a little bit of gold.
The date banner is successful as it is the only piece of red on the poster apart from the wine bottle which can faintly be seen, therefore it stands out which is important as it is promoting the date of the album release.
We chose to release the album on a Friday as this is a popular day for albums to be released, therefore it looks realistic and professional.
