Refined research
for first draft of the back of our CD cover.
Font:
We will use a similar font to this one as it uses serifs which makes the writing quite masculine and Gothic which matches our dark moody tone for our music video and our ancillary tasks as we want every feature to portray the dark theme. This will be reflected in the refined names of the singles we feature on the back. The names of the songs will fit with a font like this one as they will be quite serious, dark, depressing song names.
Layout:
We will use a different layout for our 'executive producers' as it will revolve around an image unlike this example.I like how this album uses the information to create a feature as the bar code and the record label logos and information is rotated to fill the side of the album so that the songs are the main features and nothing distracts the audience from this.
This is a different way to feature the bar code which is useful to know incase it doesn't fit nicely within our design.
The
colour scheme:
We will use a similar colour scheme as we will feature a lot of black and a bright stand out colour for the font such as this one.
Font:
This font doesn't stand out as much as we had hoped for our own, however, it fits the layout and design of the whole CD therefore it does work despite it being slightly hard to read.We would use a different technique as our single titles are important as they link to the tone and message of our music video and the rest of our ancillary tasks.
Colour scheme:
The prominent black features are successful as it is eye-catching and dark which is something that would suit our product. However we would chose a bolder colour than white in order for it to stand out more.
Layout:
I like how the singles are down one side of the CD as it makes the layout very neat and leaves a lot of room for the other features and doesn't leave masses of space. I would choose to have our song titles down one side of our album as i feel it fills the space more successfully than the first album cover i looked at above. The writing about the producers and record labels are directly underneath each other in a good location. I feel we would feature some of our small informative text here as it fills any blank text and creates a frame for the song titles as the small text draws peoples attention to the larger text which is the song titles.
This album has dotted lines which have text placed inside them such as the albums title, the CD's number, the artist and the record label. This is successful as it looks very professional, however, it is quite crowded as it overlays some of the other features therefore we might use this in a clear, empty space so that it is clear why it has been featured.
Barcode:I prefer the barcode up the right way as it looks more professional, however, the other technique is useful incase we run out of room.

Nicknames:
This feature of the album is useful as it shows the nicknames of the producers. This is a fun feature as it shows a real connection between the artist and the producers, we could use this on ours as our genre is R&B like this one therefore it fits with our audience.
This is the real back of the CD for our artist Kendrick Lemar, it is very bare and has minimal features, this is successful as it ensures the text is the main focus however it wouldn't portray our editing and production skills very well if we were to create something this simple.
Font:
I feel the font is too small as it is a similar size to the executive producers and record label information. I feel the song titles should be larger than this information as they are an important feature for us as they portray our message and tone of our music video.
Record
logos:
The record label logos are clear and are the only images on this cover which isn't my favourite thing as i like the albums that use an image, nevertheless, it makes the information very clear and simple which is still quite successful.
The
background:
The dark background and contrasting text colour is successful for our CD cover as dark colours have the best colour connotations that link to our tone and message e.g. depression, danger and seclusion.
Text
colour:
I feel the text colour stands out better on this album than Rihanna's as this one doesn't have an image, however, our CD will, therefore, we will probably use a different contrasting colour such as gold as this colour symbolises wealth and fits with the R&B genre.
